This is an abstract of blog post that is taken from the blog Electrical Engineering. Please read the original post Basic Components of Electrical Power Utility System for more details.

The Components of Electrical Power Utility System  are Electric Power Generation, Electric Power Transmission, Electric Power Conditioning and Electric Power distribution. One or more agencies are involved in this process of power power distribution. ever since the invention of electric power, Electric Lighting, electric Heating, electric torque building this energy has become the inevitable part of ones life.

As the electric power generation, electric power transmission and electric power distribution all involve huge investment and prolonged realization period many of the public electric utility systems belong to the federal government.

Let us talk about  the major components involved in electric power generation in detail. I would like to discuss this in three heads namely Electric Power Generation, Electric Power Transmission and Electric Power Distribution.

Electric Power Generation

The first component is of course generation of electric energy. There are many methods of generation of electric energy. Hydel electric generation, diesel Electricity Generation and Wind Electricity Generation are the three conventional methods employed in bulk. Recently Nuclear Energy and internal combustion energy are also getting common.

Electric Power Transmission

The second important component of electric utility is the transmission part of it. The Electric Energy is Generated in a convenient place where water, diesel, and other components are available and then brought to load centers where electricity is required in bulk. This is achieved by way of high voltage transmission lines and voltage multiplying devices called power transformers. The Power Electric Transformers step up he generation voltage to very high voltages like 400 kV, 800 kV etc and then transmit via over head tower lines. This high voltages then step down to distribution voltage at load centers. Her again we use power transformers to step down electric energy to lower voltages. Now the over head tower lines are substituted with cables also.
