Online Consumer Trends for 2009

Posted on 08 May 2009 in Affiliate Marketing by Ronald Allan Marva, Affiliate
Consumer trends are showing signs that ecommerce sales would come out flat for 2009. eMarketer forecasts that continued recessionary pressure will cause online sales to contract by 0.4% in 2009. Online retailers are toning down their spending on inventory, ads and customer service. Consumers on the other hand had started to change their buying habit.

To cope up with the economic realities, consumer spending had been reduced as a rise in consumer bargain research surged. This confirms that recession is changing the way people shop online. This change is more noticeable as we see a new breed of independent shoppers emerges - those who are increasingly researching purchases online.

This new breed of shoppers are extending their research not just for high ticket products but also to everyday products. These people are searching for good values online. Their challenge is to find the right product at the right price. These people are honing their shopping skills by trying different kinds of sites and buying tactics. I for one is admittedly part of the statistics of this breed of online shopper.

What this tells us is that as online marketers we need to think the same way these consumers think so we can ride the tide during these tough times. I hope I can expound later on how online marketers should face the challenge brought by this new shopping trends. For now, I would have to do more research so I can share them to you later.
