Marketing Calendrical Anomalies
Looks like we are heading into another calendrical anomaly! Well many marketers are excited about the symmetrical date as many are synchronizing their product launch, movie premieres, weddings, sale pricing and promotions to the magic number 9.
This numerical occurrence is certainly a good idea for marketing campaign and promotional gimmicks. It is always good to play on the imagination of people. Here are some ideas you can use:
- Tees for $9.99 as a 1-day sale
- Steak Meal for $9.99
- One-day wedding special for $99.99
- Mystery Gift Card for $9.99 or$99.99
- Match up bonus of $99 for casino promotion
Planning your promotion to coincide with events and significant occurrences is a good way to drive sales so keep it mind.Anyway, do you remember the Beijing Olympics which was held 08/08/08? There were so many promotional events held on that day or during the period. The recall factor and significance assigned by different cultures add up to the marketing appeal. Make sure though that you be aware of the negative belief of some cultures - the number 9 for example is considered unlucky number by many Japanese.
But don't expect to get another numerical symmetry for single digit dates as this is the last set of repeating, single-digit dates that we'll see for almost a century (until January 1, 2101), or a millennium (mark your calendars for January 1, 3001), depending on how you want to count it.
More trivia on number 9:
The symmetry and significance is further highlighted in the numerologist's world since Pythagoras, the famous Greek mathematician, consider the number 9 as a unique digit rich with its own properties. Number 9 in Pythagoras Square is responsible for mind, memory and clairvoyance of a person.
The Chinese are so enamored by the number 9 that that the palace complex at Beijing's Forbidden City is rumored to have been built with 9,999 rooms.
