Google Trademark Changes

Posted on 16 April 2008 in SEO and Search Engine Marketing by David Tan, Affiliate

Did you know that Google will change it's AdWords Trademark Policy on May 5th? Basically new AdWords campaigns will be able to include trademarked keywords. That includes keywords of your brands. It will cost more for merchants and brand owners to bid their own trademarked keywords. They will have more leaked traffic to competitors.

Ofcourse, this doesn't mean that it'll be legal for competitors to use your trademarked keywords on their site. Just that Google's not gonna monitor it anymore, leaving the responsibility to trademarked owners to do the work of sending 'cease and desist' letters to competitors who infringe on their trademarked keywords.

But usually in affiliate marketing, merchants do not allow bidding of trademarked terms by affiliates
