Plurk.com - Twitter with a twist

Plurk organizes your posts in a neat timeline

Introducing Plurk, a Twitter like app with a twist.

The difference here is that your posts are displayed in a comprehensive timeline, along with your friends' posts. Of course, there are filters if you want to view posts from selected friends or groups.

Each post comes with an emotive tag such as , , , to describe what you're doing or thinking. You can also search and filter posts based on these tags. Like Twitter, each post is limited to 140 characters.

You may also embed Youtube videos and pictures from various image sites like flickr, right on Plurk.

A Karma system will measure the level of activity on your profile, the higher your Karma, the more goodies you unlock such as themes and emoticons. You gain points with every 'positive' action such as posting, adding new friends, and you lose points with 'negative' actions like getting rejected for a friend request or losing a fan.

Overall, Plurk looks very promising. There's lots of room for improvement. Don't forget, the company's only 6 months old. It's currently privately held and there isn't a model in place to monetize the app, but it won't be surprising to see ads in the future.
