Right Way To Treat Your Subscriber

As someone who has been in affiliate marketing for some time, I have developed a large base of opt-in subscribers with whom I have been doing business with. With a robust email list, there is always a temptation to use this list to promote various offers which would expand my revenue span.
Email is admittedly the easiest way to keep in touch and build relationship with the people you are dealing with online. But improper use of this resource could also be the reason that you destroy this valuable relationship.
A number of email blasters would not agree with me on the above premise on building relationship and would continue to disregard the relationship built behind email subscription. And, others may agree with me, yet – in practice, they are no different from the former as they also would take subscribers for granted and are ready to sell their list to the highest bidder.
Taking on the shoes of a subscriber, I have been aggrieved by similar transgression from some entities that I have expressed interest to subscribe. Out of the blue, I would receive targeted email from another brand which is one way or the other related to the company or website that I have subscribed to. Reflecting on this incident, I feel betrayed as my information had been passed to another entity without my tacit permission. I have given an entity access to my privacy and unfortunately, this permission into my privacy was not valued properly. This incident had opened my mind on how I should treat my own subscriber if I would like to keep the respect and relationship that we both hold endear.
To avoid this kind of situation, here are some things that email marketers had to keep in mind in safeguarding their subscriber’s privacy:
• Provide what subscribers are expecting to receive by subscribing to you.
• Be wary of sending an email about some product or topic that subscribers would not be able to connect to your services or business.
• If you need to send something unrelated to what they had signed for, make sure you explain why you are doing so and do it slowly and deliberately.
• Make sure you protect their email addresses by ensuring security precaution to guard your subscriber list.
The bottom line is respect the specific permission your subscriber bestowed on you.
