Mother's Day Affiliate Sales Forecasts
As a gloomy sales forecast for the upcoming Mother's Day event was released by the National Retail Federation, several merchants have started to rethink their strategy to maximize sales. There will always be the gift-givers who would be sticking to the customary flowers and jewelry items, but this year it would be be wise for mechants and/or affiliates to target consumers who are searching for interesting alternatives in an attempt to save some cash.
To make the best of what is at hand, it is time to think outside the box. Promoting smaller, less expensive gifts will be the key to success this Mother’s Day, so start searching your inventory now for gifts that might sell well during this recession.
According to the NRF survey, total sales for Mother’s Day 2009 will be down by $1.7 billion, or nearly 11%, from 2008 sales, with the biggest declines in overall sales trending towards the Electronics, Jewelry, and Clothing categories. Well this figure does not bode well for some programs which I am promoting like EosWireless and Govios. But I started to explore other options like tying up some promotions with 1-800-Flowers.com.
Anyways, here are three categories that are relatively flat to last year’s statistics: Books and CDs, Greeting Cards, and Gift Certificates, though the average consumer will be trying to spend a little less money on these items than last year. Greeting Cards also stand out as the only category where the percentage of responders who said they would be buying that item increased- though only from 84.0% to 84.7%. So I guess as affiliates you should start looking at 123Greetings.com.
