In online marketing, one spending holiday that is highly anticipated is the Cyber Monday. Cyber Monday is a marketing term for the Monday immediately following Black Friday, the Friday following Thanksgiving Day in the United States. Cyber Monday is definitely a Red Letter Day in online marketing. It is now acclaimed as one of the Biggest Online Shopping Days of the Year. Much research had been done and they all support this claim.

Cyber Monday came into picture as an offshoot of shopping hangovers from the Black Friday spending. According to Scott Silverman, the head of Shop.org, the term was coined based on research showing that 77% of online retailers reported a significant increase in sales on the Monday after Thanksgiving in 2004. Many analysts believed that this behavior was shaped as most office workers return to their working station bringing in the Black Friday spending attitude. It also helps that most shops are looking to clear their inventory as they approach the end of the year.

Shoppers have been anticipating this day due to the serious online discounts and promotions that merchants offer. For affiliates, this means income opportunity. Thus, it makes sense to align your campaign towards Cyber Monday theme.

Here are things you can do to prep yourself for Cyber Monday:

1. Check out your merchant/ newsletter or promotional feed. This is an easy and fast way to hunt for great advertiser offers.

2. Research hot items and trends. It will definitely increase your conversion if the products/services you will promote are trendy and in demand.

3. Update your banners and creatives. It helps if you place a relevant banner or creative - probably something that features a Cyber Monday coupon or promotion.

4. Feature stores/merchants that provide strong consumer offers for Cyber Monday.

5. Contact your affiliate manager for exclusive offer.

6. Send a newsletter to your email list providing useful tips and shopping suggestions.

7. For those engaged in PPC/Paid Search/Adwords campaign, it helps if you update your ad copies to reflect Cyber Monday reference.

8. Add Cyber Monday relevant keywords on your meta tags and SEO campaign.
