iPhone Rumor Roundup

The Apple Worldwide Developers Conference is just round the corner and we know a 3G iPhone is definitely coming.

Details are yet to be confirmed though, so let's take a look at some predictions-

  • Black - There were shots of a black iPhone floating around on the internet recently. And though it is possible to be nothing more than a cover for the current iPhone, we think Apple will make an effort to differenciate the 3G iPhone with the current model, so we're not counting this one out yet.
  • 3G - This is more or less confirmed, but programmers found code pointing to the possibility of HSPDA (3.5G), so we're keeping our fingers crossed that it will be 3.5G.
  • June - Foxconn let loose that they're looking at a June release for the new iPhone, with a total of 24-25 million units produced throughout its lifespan. Currently, it's expected to be launched on the 9th of June.
  • $199 - Fortunes reports that AT&T may be willing to subsidize $200 of the regular price with a two year contract agreement. Without an agreement, the phones are expected to sell for $399 (8GB) and $499 (16GB) respectively.
  • GPS - Programmers toying with the iPhone SDK also found lines pointing to the possibility of a true GPS module. If this were true, it will be doubly accurate using cellphone towers and GPS to triangulate a location.
  • Thinner - Fortune also reports that the new phone might see a 2.5 mm shave off the 11.7 mm original.
